A round table with a red cloth, a lilac jug, a bowl of cherries and through the tall window, the warm salmon façades of Paris opposite. The ironwork balcony railing, the curtains moving in the morning air, the city always there.
The apartment was on the fourth floor. The windows were tall and the curtains were always moving. Paris was always there when you looked up the rooftops, the ironwork, the tower on clear days. We never tired of the view.
This is the first drawing Étienne made of their apartment. The red tablecloth, the lilac jug, the bowl of cherries — small domestic details that anchor a life in a place. The city visible beyond, framed by the ironwork balcony, as it always was.
The most intimate and personal piece in the collection a portrait not of a landmark but of a life being lived.
