Pink, coral and orange blooms stretching to the horizon under a vast, dreamy sky of blue and billowing white clouds. Pure open-air joy, drawn entirely in colour pencil.
There were days when they drove out of the city and did nothing at all. No plan, no destination, no intention beyond getting away from the noise and the crowds and finding somewhere with enough sky.
This field found them. They pulled over on a small road in the Île-de-France and walked into it without speaking. The poppies were at their absolute peak pink and coral and orange as far as they could see, the sky enormous above them, the city somewhere far behind.
He drew it from memory that evening because he had been too busy standing in it to draw it at the time. Some places you live first and paint later.
