The story behind this piece

A wide flat bow in cornflower blue a low bun beneath it, a rosy cheek just visible at the edge of the frame, a single dark lash. A study in what it means to love someone's ordinary Tuesday.

The third and final portrait in the Le nœud bleu series the most close, the most tender, the most quietly observed. The bow is wider and flatter than in the other two portraits, cornflower blue rather than cobalt, tied with the unhurried care of a morning with nowhere to be.

The rosy cheek just visible at the edge of the frame. A single dark lash. The suggestion of a profile rather than a full face enough to feel present, not enough to feel exposed.

He has drawn her from behind more times than from the front. It was how he first saw her. It remains his favourite view.
