A wide Parisian boulevard lined with blazing red trees under a violet and pink evening sky café windows glowing amber below, figures moving slowly along the pavement. The most dramatic piece in the entire collection.
There is one week in November when the trees along certain boulevards turn a red so vivid it looks painted. Étienne has tried to capture it every year. He is still not sure he has fully succeeded. These are his closest attempts and perhaps the most honest paintings he has ever made.
This piece the widest and most cinematic of the three shows the boulevard at its most theatrical. The red of the trees against the violet sky, the amber glow of the café windows below, the figures moving through it all as if they do not notice they are walking through a masterpiece.
