He sat on the opposite pavement with his sketchbook on his knee. She sat beside him and invented lives for everyone who walked past the man in the blue suit was on his way to a meeting he had already decided not to attend; the woman with the red bag was returning a book she had loved too much to keep.
The boulevard swept away in both directions under a wide, dramatic sky. The café hummed. The city moved. He drew as fast as he could and still could not keep up.
Camille narrated the imagined lives of everyone who walked past. His favourite afternoon in twelve years. A piece full of life and movement the energy of Paris at its most public and most alive.
