A cottage with a terracotta roof and a single blue door at the end of a winding dirt path — white picket fence, wildflowers in blue and lavender, a great tree standing guard to the right.
On weekends they sometimes left Paris entirely. Camille liked the quiet. He liked watching her in the quiet. They would drive out into the countryside without a plan, stopping wherever something caught their eye.
This cottage caught hers immediately. She pointed at it from the car window and said: that one. That is ours. They pulled over and he drew it while she walked the path to the blue door and back, slowly, as if she already lived there.
