The story behind this piece

Pink and gold clouds over the Eiffel Tower reflected in the calm Seine the most dreamlike hour in the most dreamlike city.

There is an hour in Paris just after the sun drops behind the rooftops but before the streetlamps come on — when the sky turns a shade of pink that does not exist anywhere else. The Seine catches it and doubles it. The tower stands in the middle of all of it, perfectly still.

Étienne painted this at the end of their first year together. He wanted to mark it with something. This was the only thing that felt worthy of the occasion.

The bridge arch in the foreground, the streetlamps warming to life, the small café with its red awning beginning to glow — everything is in its right place. The most romantic piece in the collection.
