A single gas lamp glows amber against a purple evening sky leaves mid-fall, the tower watching from the distance, the river catching everything in its still surface.
The lampposts along the Paris canals come on at dusk with a warm amber glow that is entirely their own different from the cold light of the streets, more personal, more old-fashioned. On this evening the leaves were still falling from the red trees, suspended mid-air as if the city had taken a breath and held it.
The tower in the distance. The bridge in the middle. The lamp in the foreground. Everything in its right place.
