The story behind this piece

A golden October afternoon at the foot of a curved Haussmann building in Montmartre the Sacré-Cœur watching quietly from the distance as the city hums below.

She ordered for both of us without asking. I have never forgotten it.

This piece belongs to We met in Paris, the opening collection of Étienne Marceau's life work  a series of paintings made for every place he and Camille sat together during their twelve years in the city.

It was an afternoon in October, the trees at their most golden, the café at the corner of a wide curved street just below the hill of Montmartre. They took the small table by the door. She looked at the menu for exactly three seconds and then ordered for both of them without asking. He did not mind. He has never minded anything she has done.

The Sacré-Cœur is just visible in the distance white and calm above the rooftops. The city moves around them. They stay still.
